Augustana String Quartet Recital
SIOUX FALLS – The Augustana String Quartet Recital is Saturday, November 22, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall.
The program includes music by Ives and Mendelssohn. Admission is free. Kresge Recital Hall is located in the Humanities Building on the campus of Augustana College.
Joining the quartet is guest artist Emily Lodine, mezzo soprano. She has appeared with the symphonies of Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, and the Pacific Symphony. She also received acclaim for her work in the world premier and recording of Jon Polifrone’s Requiem, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
The only professional string quartet in residence at a college in the region, the Augustana String Quartet consists of violinists Christian Zamora and Justyna Solida Lutow, violist I-Chun Chiang, and cellist Kathryn Hufnagle. The members serve as associate principals in the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and as adjunct faculty for Augustana College with special emphasis on recruiting for the College’s string program.
The quartet has recently been invited to perform as guest chamber music ensemble at the 2009 Iowa International Piano Competition. Formed in September 2007, the Augustana String Quartet made a quartet solo appearance with the South Dakota Symphony performing Jon Deak’s Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow and has performed and given master classes in Sioux Falls, Brookings, SD, Forest Lake, MN, and Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, and Grand Island, NE.
The quartet has had the privilege of working with many distinguished musicians, including Midori, Christopher Rex, principal cellist of the Atlanta Symphony, and Paul Hatton, violin faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
